Treasure Chest Casino Moves $100 Million Coast With Kenner Grand Open, Ends Riverboat Era

Treasure Chest announced the grand opening of its new land casino at the end of Williams Boulevard near Lake Pontchartrain in Kenner, Louisiana, scheduled for Thursday, June 6. The event marks the closure of the old Riverboat Casino, which will close at 11:59 p.m. on Saturday, June 1.

The newly constructed land casino boasts 48,000 square feet of gaming space, double the original river boating facility. The new venue also includes more than 8,000 square feet of convention space and four new dining options. The entire project was completed at a cost of about $100 million.

Nevada-based Boyd Gaming Corporation owns the Treasure Chest, which first opened in 1994 on top of a replica Riverboat located on Lake Pontchartrain. Initially, the Riverboat Casino featured only one restaurant and had no convention space.

The new land casino is expected to bring significant economic benefits to Kenner. “We expect this to be a catalyst for economic growth, higher sales taxes and higher steel fares on which Kenner relies heavily,” Mayor Michael Glazer said in his latest budget filing.

Kenner officials are also considering additional redevelopment projects for the Laketown area. In April, Jefferson Parish 4th District Councilmember Arita Bohann revealed plans for a new outdoor amphitheater with 7,500 seats, a boardwalk, and an observation deck on the western edge of Laketown.

According to Nola , a ceremonial “last bet” event will take place on June 1 at 11:59 p.m. at the Riverboat Casino, featuring a second row and banner drop. The doors to the new casino, located at 4540 Williams Boulevard, will officially open on June 6 at 8 a.m.

Riverboat Casino Moving From the Beach

Since its opening in 1994, Riverboat Casino has been an important source of revenue for Kenner, despite having only one restaurant and no flexible event space. For the fiscal year ending June 30, 2023, Treasure Chest reported net gambling revenue of $9.7 million, an increase of 11.6% year over year. That figure ranked eighth among 13 award-winning casinos in Louisiana operating in fiscal 2022. However, neither Treasure Chest nor any other casinos in the state have fully recovered to pre-pandemic business levels, according to the Game Control Board.

Casino gambling was legalized in Louisiana in 1991, initially limiting paddlewheel casinos to 15. The steel ships were originally required to sail regularly, and were removed by the legislature in 2001. In 2018, lawmakers approved Senate Bill 316, signed by then-Gov. John Bel Edwards on May 23, allowing steelline casinos to travel up to 1,200 feet by land in designated berths.

Westlake’s hooves were first brought to land in December, followed by Hollywood moves in Baton Rouge this fall. The treasure chest will be the third, with others, such as Bell in Baton Rouge and Diamond Jax in Bossy, also planning to make their way to the shore.

This shift in Louisiana’s gambling environment represents a significant change, improving the facilities in the area involved and potentially boosting revenue. The new land-based Treasure Chest Casino in Kenner is ready to be the centerpiece of this evolution, promising improved amenities and economic benefits for the community. 실시간 바카라사이트
