Kiwoom beats Doosan to end 2-game losing streak

‘Rookie’ Kim Yoon-ha pitches 7 shutout innings for debut win

The Kiwoom Heroes snapped a two-game losing streak behind a strong performance from rookie starter Kim Yoon-ha.

Kiwoom snapped a two-game losing streak with a 6-1 victory over the Doosan Bears in the 2024 Shinhan Bank SOL Bank KBO League on Friday at Jamsil Baseball Stadium in Seoul.

Kiwoom starter Kim Yoon earned the game’s first win. Kim pitched seven innings of two-hit ball with three strikeouts, the most innings of his career and his first Quality Start, and earned a Quality Start Plus (pitching seven innings of three runs or less) to earn a valuable debut win. Kim’s fastball topped out at 148 mph.

The Kiwoom bats also saw Lee Ju-hyung go 1-for-2 with a walk and three RBIs, Dawson go 1-for-2 with a walk, Song Sung-moon go 1-for-1 with an RBI, Kim Hye-sung go 1-for-1 with a run scored, and Lee Yong-kyu go 1-for-1 with an RBI and a walk.

Meanwhile, Doosan starter Shirakawa allowed two runs on three hits and five walks in 4.2 innings. He threw 82 pitches. His fastball reached 150 kilometers, but his secondary pitches were shaky.

Kim Yoon-ha’s first win in her debut

It was literally a gem of a pitching performance. Kim gave up a walk to Heo Kyung-min with two outs in the first inning, but then got Yang Ji-ji to ground out to shortstop to end the inning easily.

In the second inning, Kim gave up a walk to Yang Seok-hwan to start the inning, but got Kang Seung-ho to fly out to second base and Park Jun-young to ground out to shortstop. He then gave up a walk to Yang Chan-yeol to put runners on first and second, but got Lee Yoo-chan to fly out to end the threat.

Kim Yoon-ha settled down in the third inning. He got Jung Soo-bin to fly out to center field, Lee Yoo-chan to strike out, and Heo Kyung-min to ground out for the first three-hit shutout of the day.

The bottom of the fourth inning was just as good. Yang Ji-hyun flied out to right field, Yang Seok-hwan struck out, and Kang Seung-ho grounded out to end the inning.

In the fifth, he struck out Park Joon-young, got Yang Chanyeol to ground out to short, and gave up a single to left-center to Jeon Min-jae, but got Jung Soo-bin to ground out to end the inning.

In the bottom of the sixth, Kim struck out Lee Yoo-chan on a grounder to first base and Heo Kyung-min and Yang Ji-hyun on consecutive grounders to center field for his first career quality start.

Kim Yoon-ha’s dominance continued. He took the mound in the seventh and retired Yang Seok-hwan on a grounder to shortstop, Kang Seung-ho on a 파워볼사이트 추천 strikeout, and Park Jun-young on a grounder to shortstop to end the inning.

Song Sung-moon’s RBI single gives Kiwoom an early lead

Kiwoom got on the board first. After leading off the top of the fourth inning with a single up the middle, Lee singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch by Doosan starter Shirakawa.

After Dawson drew a walk to put runners on first and second with nobody out, Kiwoom took advantage of Song Sung-moon’s single to right-center field to score Lee Joo-hyung from second base for a 1-0 lead.

However, the team was unable to capitalize on the opportunity as Kim Hye-sung flied out to left field and Ko Young-woo was thrown out at shortstop.

After pitching a one-run fourth inning, Shirakawa faltered in the top of the fifth. He walked a couple of batters and eventually gave up another run on a wild pitch.

Shirakawa gave up a leadoff single to right-center to Kim Woong-bin and then moved him to second on a sacrifice bunt by Kim Jae-hyun. He then walked Lee Jae-sang to load the bases, but gave up three straight singles before being removed from the game.

Shirakawa gave up back-to-back singles to Lee Yong-gyu and Lee Joo-hyung, and then a pushing single to Dawson, which allowed two more runs to score.

Ko Young-woo’s RBI single

Kiwoom added another run in the top of the eighth. With the bases loaded, Kim Hye-sung singled to center field. The Doosan bench requested a video review of the play, believing that Lee Kyo-hoon, who had come up from the bullpen, had a faster touch on the base, but the video review upheld the call.

This led to Kiwoom’s RBI single. Ko Young-woo followed with a two-run double to left-center field to give Kiwoom a 3-0 lead.

Lee Yoo-chan hits a game-tying RBI single

In the bottom of the eighth inning, Yang led off with a walk and advanced to second on Jeon Min-jae’s grounder to the pitcher. Lee Yoo-chan came through with a single to make it a 1-3 game, but the tying run was unable to score.

Lee Yong-gyu’s wedge hit in the top of the ninth.

Kiwoom didn’t stand still. In the top of the ninth, Kim Tae-jin singled up the middle and Lee Yong-kyu followed with a triple to right to make it 4-1. The game was then suspended at 9:06 p.m. due to a sudden downpour at Jamsil Stadium and resumed an hour later, with Kiwoom adding RBI singles from Dawson and Kim Hye-sung to secure the win.

Kiwoom, meanwhile, will return home to Kochok for a three-game weekend series against the first-place KIA Tigers. Doosan will face SSG Landers in Incheon.
