Korean soccer star Son Heung-min achieved a significant milestone at Tottenham Hotspur, a prestigious team in the English professional soccer Premier League. He is the first non-European player belonging to Tottenham to join the ‘400 game club’.

Son Heung-min started as a frontline striker in the 2023-2024 EPL 31st round away game against West Ham (1-1 draw) held at London Stadium in London, England on the 3rd (Korean time) and played until the end of the game.

The game against West Ham was Son Heung-min’s 400th game in a Tottenham uniform. Tottenham even posted an animation commemorating Son Heung-min’s 400th game appearance on social networking services (SNS).

Son Heung-min is the 14th player to join the ‘400 game club’ throughout the history of Tottenham, which was founded in 1882.

The leader in this category is Steve Perryman (854 games), who played for Tottenham from 1969 to 1986.

Center back Gary Marbert (1982-1998), who also played for Tottenham for more than 10 years, is in second place (611 games), followed by Pat Jennings (1964-1977, 590 games) and Cyril Knowles (1964-1977), who played in the 1960s and 1970s. 1975) ranked 3rd and 4th, respectively.

In this list, if you count only the players who joined Tottenham after the EPL was founded in 1992, Son Heung-min rises to third place. 1st and 2nd place are also familiar to Korean fans.

French goalkeeper Hugo Lloris (currently LA FC, 2012-2023, 447 games), who served as Tottenham captain before Son Heung-min, ranks first in this category. If you look at history, it ranks 7th.

Special striker Harry Kane (2011-2023, 435 games), who boasted great chemistry with Son Heung-min but left for Bayern Munich (Germany) last summer, will succeed him. It ranks 10th in history.

Kane shared the ups and downs with Son Heung-min, who joined the team in 2015, and set the record for the most joint goals in EPL history (47 goals).

The player who is one step higher than Son Heung-min in the all-time appearances list is defender Maurice Norman (13th place, 411 games), who played from 1955 to 1965.

As Son Heung-min has 8 games left in the league this season, unless there is a surprise transfer, next season will include Norman, 12th place John Pratt (1969-1980, 415 games), and 11th place Phil Beal (1963-1975, 420 games). The record can be easily caught up. Kane’s record is also within range.

Among the 14 players who joined the ‘400 game club‘, Son Heung-min is the only player from outside of Europe.

Goalkeeper Son Heung-min ranks much higher in the club’s total scoring category.

Son Heung-min, who scored the winning goal to make it 2-1 in the home game against Luton Town in the 30th round, ranked 5th (160 goals) in this category, surpassing Cliff Jones (159 goals), a Welsh striker who played in the 1960s. 고스톱
