Spring Volleyball Gazua~ 3rd place race is alive and well

The battle for third and fourth place in the Korean Professional Volleyball League’s regular season is coming down to the wire as the league heads into its final stretch.

In the men’s division, third-place OK Financial Group (52-18 W-15 L) and fourth-place Samsung Fire (48-18 W-15 L) are fighting for one more point to secure a spot in the postseason. In professional volleyball, if the third- and fourth-place teams are within three points of each other, they play a single-elimination semi-playoff (Semi-PO) match. If the semifinals are not held, 토토 the second and third place teams will play a best-of-three playoff series.

OK Financial Group and Samsung C&T each have three games remaining. OK Financial Group will face KEPCO (7th), Korean Air (10th), and Hyundai Capital (15th). In order to maintain or increase their point differential with Samsung Fire, they will need to beat fifth-place KEPCO and sixth-place Hyundai Capital. OK Financial Group is looking to make the playoffs for the first time in three years after the 2020-2021 season.

Samsung Fire will face Hyundai Capital (Aug. 8), KEPCO (Aug. 13) and Woori Card (Aug. 16). The pressure is on Samsung Fire to win against Hyundai Capital and KEPCO, as the team is looking to play spring volleyball for the first time in six years after the 2017-2018 season. In particular, they need to create a situation where they need to earn points even if they lose, as they can advance to the semifinals if they narrow the gap with OK Financial Group by even one point.

In the women’s division, Jung Kwanjang has consolidated its third-place position with 58 points (19 W14 D), thanks to a recent six-game winning streak, but an upset is possible. Fourth-place GS Caltex (51 points, 18-18-15), seven points behind, can advance to the Semi-Po if they win all three of their matches against Jungkwanjang (7/7), Korea Expressway Corporation (10/10), and Heungkuk Life (15/15), depending on how Jeonggwanjang performs in their remaining two matches. If Jungkwanjang, who lost to GS Caltex, can earn five points against Pepper Savings Bank (13th) or IBK (17th), they will qualify for the Semi-Po.
