Korean Air is back in the lead in men’s professional volleyball as it seeks to become the first team to win the overall title (regular season and championship) in four consecutive seasons. Korean Air defeated OK Financial Group 3-1 (25-18 25-13 21-25 25-23) in three sets on Thursday in their Dodram 2023-2024 V-League home match at Gyeyang Gymnasium in Incheon, South Korea. With the three points, Korean Air improved to 56 points and moved back into first place, one point ahead of Woori Card, who have played one game less. Third-place OK Financial Group remained on 44 points, unable to pull away from the chasing pack of Samsung Fire, KEPCO and Hyundai Capital.

Korean Air, which had won three straight matches without dropping a set to OK Financial Group this season before falling 0-3 in the fourth round last December, used an effective serving strategy that mixed hard and soft to break down OK Financial Group’s receptions and take an early lead. Korean Air dominated OK Financial slotplayground Group in every aspect of the match, including solid defense, skillful ball distribution from setter Han, and one-hit wonders from Lim Dong-hyuk, who is as devastating as any foreign player. Playing as an outside hitter, Lim was on fire, scoring 25 points, more than OK Financial Group’s main gun Leonardo Leyva Martinez (registered name Leo – 22 points).Korean Air easily took control in the first set as OK Financial Group committed nine unforced errors .They continued to impress in the second set with one impressive moment after another to book the win. At 8-3, Lim Dong-hyuk roared with a cannonball service ace, followed by middle blocker Kim Gyu-min blocking Leo’s opening bang.

At 11-5, Kwak Seung-seok saved a quick open attack from Leo with a dig, and Jung Jung-seok followed with a clean service ace to extend the lead to eight points .Korean Air dropped the third set to Leo’s 11-point comeback, including three blocked points, but rallied for two points at 21-20 in the tense fourth set, thanks to a clean back-attack kill by Lim Dong-hyuk and a block by OK Financial Group’s Chae Hwan Chae to seal the match. Korean Air had four players in double figures, including Lim Dong-hyuk, Jung Ji-seok (16 points), Kwak Seung-seok and Kim Min-jae (over 10 points).In the women’s match at Gimcheon Gymnasium in Gyeongbuk, Korea Express topped GS Caltex 3-1 (25-16 20-25 25-18 25-22).The defending champions improved to 10 wins (19 losses) with seven matches remaining this season. Chasing third-placed GS Caltex suffered a blow and remained stagnant on 45 points, facing a stiff challenge from fourth-placed Jeong Kwan Jang (44 points).Roadworks scored points from four different players, including Vanya Vukiric, to overtake GS Caltex, who relied solely on Gisele Silva. GS Caltex had to be satisfied that setter Ahn Hye-jin, who underwent 슬롯게이밍 left shoulder surgery last July, played for the first time this season and orchestrated the match.
