17-year-old Oh Jun-sung became the youngest to win three gold medals

“Teenage sensation” Oh Jun-sung (17, Mirae Asset Securities) won three gold medals at the National Men’s and Women’s Table Tennis Championships, the nation’s most prestigious table tennis competition.

Oh Joon-sung won 3-2 (8-114-111 11-6 13-111 11-3) against teammate Park Kyu-hyun (18) in the men’s singles final of the 77th Shinhan SOL National Men’s and Women’s Table Tennis Championships at Dangjin Indoor Gymnasium in Chungcheongnam-do on the 15th.

Oh Joon-sung, who dropped out of high school in the second half of last year and joined Mirae Asset Securities, won his first career singles title in a year after entering unemployment.

Oh Jun-sung, who was born in 2006 and is 17 years old, also rewrote the competition’s youngest men’s singles title.

Oh Sang-eun, the father of Oh Joon-sung, won his first individual singles victory in the 1999 competition when he was 22 years old.

Oh Joon-sung also won the men’s doubles with Park Kyu-hyun the day before, so he won two individual titles.

On top of that, he won the team event and won three gold medals in the competition.

In the singles final, which was held as a “teenage match,” Park Kyu-hyun won the two games first with his power, but Oh Joon-sung turned the game around by launching a timely counterattack based on his calm defense.

After Oh Joon-sung won the four-game deuce battle, the game was further tilted.

In the women’s singles final, naturalized player Kim Ha-young (25, Korean Air) beat Lee Da-eun 3-2 (11-4 12-107-111 11-13 11-6) to reach the top of the podium.

Born in 1998, Kim Ha-young is a naturalized player who was born in Tianjin, China, and acquired Korean citizenship in 2016.

Having started competing in domestic and international competitions in 2019, he had a lot of expectations in the table tennis world, but he did not grow as fast as expected.

Kim Ha-young, who always maintained the semifinals but couldn’t finish the championship, finally smiled broadly as she won her first victory on the domestic stage at the comprehensive championship, the most prestigious competition.

Kim Ha-young said, “My greed has been a little ahead of me. Even if I did well, I always failed to produce results at the end,” adding, “I tried to focus on each process rather than winning this competition.”

“I want to keep working hard and become a member of the national team again. I want to win a medal at the Olympics,” said Kim Ha-young, who competed at the World Championships in Chengdu last year but failed to win the national flag this year.

In the team finals that followed, Mirae Asset Securities and POSCO International won the men’s and women’s championships, respectively.

Mirae Asset Securities defeated Samsung Life Insurance 3-1 in the men’s team final to win its second straight game.

In addition, Oh Jun-sung won three gold medals in the competition.

In the team final, Oh Jun-sung also performed a perfect match to defeat Lee Sang-soo, a “great senior” from the national team.

Jang Sung-il (19) of Mirae Asset Securities beat all the strong players from the national team, including Cho Seung-min and Cho Dae-sung, and was responsible for two match points alone.

Jung Young-sik (31), who was once the “ace” of Korean table tennis and has long supported the team as a “beater,” retired through this tournament, revealed the “future” of the team by sweeping three men’s titles with young players.

In the women’s team final, POSCO International defeated Korean Air 3-1 to win its second consecutive victory. 슬롯게이밍
