About 500 members of the Korean national team, including swimming Hwang Sun-woo and track and field track and field athlete Sang-hyuk Woo, will enter the ‘Marine Corps Camp’ ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics.

About 500 executives and employees of the national team, the Korea Sports Council, and sports organizations will participate in the ‘One Team Korea’ camp held at the 1st Marine Division in Pohang, Gyeongsangbuk-do from the 18th to the 20th.

The Korea Sports Council explained, “This is a schedule to create a new opportunity to make up for the sluggishness of the Tokyo Olympics and take a leap forward, and to strengthen the mental strength of the Korean athletes to achieve their goals at the Paris Olympics.”

Taegeuk warriors including Kim Je-deok, Ansan (archery), Koo Bon-gil, Oh Sang-wook (fencing), Hwang Seon-woo (swimming), Woo Sang-hyuk (track and field), Jeon Woong-tae (modern pentathlon), and Yeo Yeo-jeong (artistic gymnastics) competed at the Jincheon Athletes’ Village on the morning of the 10th. The main training includes a program to consider injuries and strengthen mental strength through physical training, and receives Marine Corps DNA training such as training and instilling the spirit of challenge, unity, sincerity, and honor. Training such as leadership training and overcoming fear is also provided.

There will also be a sunrise view event at Homigot and a pledge event to participate in the Paris Olympics.

The Korea Sports Council announced that it is discussing with the Marine Corps the detailed camp schedule for each day.

Meanwhile, Sports Chairman Lee Ki-heung said at a press conference on the 14th, “We expect that the number of gold medals that can be won at the Paris Olympics will be around 5 and that we will be ranked in the top 20.” He added, “We have created a task force team in the athletes’ village and are preparing to analyze competitors and opponents. “Although medals are not everything, it is true that there are concerns,” he said.

Korea ranked in the top 10 at the 2004 Athens, 2008 Beijing, 2012 London, and 2018 Rio Olympics. However, it fell to 16th place at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
