The SSG Landers of the Korean Baseball Organization (KBO) pulled off a thrilling come-from-behind victory with a walk-off home run in the eighth inning.

SSG won 5-4 against the Kiwoom Heroes in the 2024 Shinhan Bank SOL Bank KBO League at Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul on Sunday.

SSG started Choi Ji-hoon (center fielder), Park Sung-han (shortstop), Choi Jung (third baseman), Guillermo Heredia (left fielder), Han Yoo-seom (designated hitter), Lee Ji-young (catcher), Ha Jae-hoon (right fielder), Go Myung-joon (first baseman), and Ahn Sang-hyun (second baseman).

Ha went 3-for-4 with a double, a home run, three RBIs and a run scored, including the game-winning home run (his fourth of the season) in the eighth inning. Lee Ji-young also had a multi-hit game, while Choi Ji-hoon and Park Sung-eun went 1-for-3 with one hit and two walks. Starting pitcher Drew Anderson allowed one run on four hits with four strikeouts in three innings. Starting pitcher Enmanuel De Jesus had a rough outing, allowing four runs on seven hits and four walks with six strikeouts in 4⅔ innings. The bullpen of Moon Sung-hyun (1⅓ scoreless innings), Kim Sung-min (1 scoreless inning), Kim Jae-woong (1 run in 1 inning), and Park Yoon-seong (1 run in 1 inning) battled back, but could not prevent the team from losing. Kiwoom’s two-game winning streak came to an end with the loss. The loss stretched their home losing streak to 12 games, dating back to last month’s 17th game against KT.

Kiwoom took the lead in the bottom of the first inning when Kim Hye-sung led off with a single and Lee Joo-hyung followed with an RBI single. Kim Hye-sung’s quick feet were on display. Choi Joo-hwan followed with a single to put runners on second and third, but Kim struck out.

Go Myung-joon grounded out to shortstop to end the threat.

Kiwoom had runners on first and third in the bottom of the fifth after a walk by Kim Hye-sung and a single by Choi Joo-hwan, but Kim struck out and pinch-hitter Kim Tae-jin grounded into a fielder’s choice. In the sixth, Lim Ji-yeol led off with an infield single and Kim Jae-hyun laid down a sacrifice bunt, but Song Sung-moon flied out to left field and Dawson struck out. In the seventh, leadoff hitter Kim Hye-sung singled and stole second, but Lee Joo-hyung grounded out to shortstop for a strikeout and Choi Joo-hwan followed with a grounder to shortstop.

SSG finally broke through in the top of the eighth inning when leadoff hitter Ha Jae-hoon hit a solo home run. Go Myung-joon then drew a walk to load the bases for Oh Tae-gon. Following a sacrifice bunt by Choi Kyung-mo and a stolen third base by Oh Tae-gon, SSG put runners on first and third with one out, but Choi Ji-hoon drew a walk, but Park Sung-hwan hit a grounder to second and Choi Jung struck out.

Kiwoom walked the leadoff hitter Park Soo-jong in the bottom of the eighth. Lim Ji-yeol hit a big shot, but left fielder Eredia caught it and advanced to second with a strong shoulder before Guirouha threw Park to second for a double play. After the missed opportunity, Kiwoom had one last chance in the top of the ninth when Song Sung-moon led off with a single. Dawson flied out to left field and Kim Hye-sung grounded into a double play. The fourth batter, Lee Joo-hyung, flied out to shortstop to end the threat.
