Unprofessional WKBL

BNK Kim Han-byul and the judges disciplined for excessive protest and poor operation, respectively
Financial Services Commission Disciplinary But Didn’t Inform. Criticized Discipline at the End of President’s Term

Controversy arose over “secret disciplinary action” for not informing the outside world even though the Korean Women’s Basketball Federation (WKBL, President Lee Byung-wan), which oversees women’s professional basketball, held a financial committee and disciplined it.

According to the basketball community on the 27th, WKBL recently decided to punish 300,000 won in fines for complaining excessively to Busan BNK’s Kim Han-byeol.

The referee and two assistant judges who ran the game were also charged 300,000 won, 200,000 won and 100,000 won, respectively. The reason was that the rules were not properly applied.

Kim Han-byul protested loudly against the referee with about eight minutes left at the end of the fourth quarter in a match against Bucheon Hana One-Q at Bucheon Indoor Gymnasium on the 1st. The reason was that the opponent’s foul was not called during the rebound competition.

The WKBL Finance Committee first imposed a fine of 1 million won on Kim Han-byul and 300,000 won, 200,000 won and 100,000 won on the three judges, respectively, in the case.

However, the WKBL Secretariat did not inform the outside world of a series of processes from the holding of the Finance Committee to the contents of the sanctions according to the conclusion.

In fact, it was a closed-door disciplinary action. It is very common and basic for professional sports to publicize reward and punishment to the outside. There is no reason to hide it.

WKBL’s amateurish moves do not stop there.

President Lee Byung-wan, who has the authority to sanction the Financial Services Commission, was briefed on the results of the meeting, and reduced the level of sanctions imposed on Kim Han-byul from 1 million won to 300,000 won, but he also did not share related details. Fiscal committee members still recognize the sanctions imposed on Kim Han-byul as 1 million won.

There are many voices pointing out the lax discipline of the secretariat at the end of the president’s term. Governor Lee’s term ends in June this year.

A WKBL official acknowledged that “administrative mistakes were made in the internal sharing process.” 안전놀이터
