KPGA Bizplay E-Mail Open reduced to 54 holes

The Korea Professional Golf Association (KPGA) Korean Tour’s Bizplay-Electronic Newspaper Open (total prize money of 700 million won) has been reduced to 54 holes due to a waterlogged course caused by heavy rain.

The tournament organizing committee announced that the second round of the tournament, which was scheduled to be held on the 15th, has been moved to the 16th and a 54-hole tournament will be played to determine the winner.

Players who finish in the top 60 in the second round on the 16th will play the final round on the 17th to determine the final standings.

This is the second time this year that a KPGA Korean Tour event will be played over 54 holes after the GS Caltex-Mae Kyung Open in May.

In particular, the Bizplay-Electronic Newspaper Tournament, which is in its fourth year, has been shortened to 54 holes three times, excluding the 2021 edition.

The first edition of the tournament, held at Tamius Country Club in Jeju in 2020, was reduced to 54 holes after the second day’s play was canceled due to strong winds, and the third edition, held at Blackstone Jeju Country Club last year, was also reduced to 54 holes after the first round was postponed due to strong winds.

The tournament venue, Cosmos Rings in Yeongam-gun, Jeollanam-do, received a lot of rain in the morning, but the course was not drained because it is a reclaimed landfill.

The tournament organizing committee postponed the second round, which was scheduled to start at 7 a.m., to a 12 p.m. start four times to carry out drainage work, but the water did not drain enough for normal play, so it was finally decided to shorten the tournament to 54 holes.

KPGA Tournament Chairman Kwon Chung-won said, “The rain that fell from the night before until this morning created abnormal conditions on the course that made ball retrieval difficult. The tournament committee, the course management team, and the tour’s director of operations decided to cancel the tournament after consulting with the title sponsor, considering the course conditions and maintenance time.” 토토사이트
