Na Sung-beom’s 9th inning game-winning RBI single…Kia defeats LG in KS in preview

Baseball’s Kia Tigers took a dramatic one-game lead over the LG Twins in a preview of the Korean Series (KS).

Kia came from behind to win 3-2 against visiting LG in the 2024 Shinhan SOL Bank KBO League at Jamsil Stadium in Seoul on Saturday.

Kia extended its lead over LG to five games and clinched a spot in the Korean Series.

The Kia batting lineup, which was lethargic until the eighth inning, turned the game around with a single run in the top of the ninth inning after being down 0-2.

Leadoff hitter Choi Won-joon drew a walk against LG closer Yoo Young-chan, and Kim Do-young, who had just reached the 30-homer, 30-double milestone the day before, hit a timely double to left-center to cut the deficit to one.

After a wild pitch put runners on first and third, Yoo Young-chan faced a big mountain in Na Sung-beom.

On a 1-ball-1 strike, Na scooped up Yoo’s 149.7-kilometer-per-hour fastball and roared it over the wall for a game-winning two-run arch.

Kia closer Jung Hae-young took the mound in the ninth inning to preserve the victory.

After a scoreless fifth inning, LG struck first.

After leadoff hitter Heo Do-hwan led off with a walk, KIA starter Kim Do-hyun recorded one out and turned the ball over to reliever Kim Ki-hoon.

After a walk to Shin Min-jae put runners on first and second, LG scored a run two batters later on Moon Bo-kyung’s single to right.

LG had two runners on base in the sixth inning when Kim Hyun-soo’s grounder bounced erratically in front of Kia shortstop Park Chan-ho, allowing Heo Do-hwan to make it 2-0 with a single to right field, but the team couldn’t get past the ninth inning.

The Doosan Bears rode a near-perfect pitching performance from Keisho Shirakawa to a 5-0 victory over the KT Wiz in Suwon to reach the 60-win plateau for the fourth time.

Shirakawa earned the victory after allowing just four hits and one walk on 102 pitches over eight innings, easily picking apart the KT lineup.

After getting Moon Sang-chul to ground out to end the inning with runners on second and third in the first inning after back-to-back singles, Shirakawa continued to torment the KT bats until he was forced to retire the side to earn his fourth win in four tries.

Doosan opened the scoring in the top of the first inning when new fixture Jared Young led off with a single up the middle and scored on an infield grounder by Kang Seung-ho in the ensuing at-bat.

Yang Seok-hwan, Doosan’s No. 4 hitter, took his hitting skills to the next level in the third inning, turning a pitch to his body and blasting a solo shot to left field for a 3-0 lead.

Back-to-back singles by Kim Jae-hwan and Kang Seung-ho were followed by a sacrifice fly by Jeon Min-jae to extend the lead to 4-0.

Yang Seok-hwan drove in the final run with an RBI single in the ninth inning. It was a complete-game performance with three hits and two RBIs.

In Changwon, the Samsung Lions snapped the NC Dinos‘ eight-game losing streak with a 7-3 victory.

NC dropped to ninth place after losing ground to the Hanwha Eagles for eighth.

Samsung opened the scoring in the top of the second inning when Kim Heon-gon singled up the middle with the bases loaded on three walks.

In the next at-bat, Yoon Jeong-bin made it 2-0 with a pushing RBI single.

In the third, with two outs, Lee Jae-hyun hit a two-run double to left center to make it 3-0.

Samsung starter Hwang Dong-jae was on the verge of picking up his second win in two years, but gave up a walk and a double in the sixth before handing the baton to Kim Tae-hoon.

NC’s No. 2 hitter, Seo Ho-cheol, hit Kim Tae-hoon with a three-run homer to left-center field to put the game back on track.

Samsung regained the lead in the top of the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Kang Min-ho after NC catcher Kim Hyung-joon’s throwing error put runners on first and third.

Then, with the score 4-3 in the top of the ninth, Samsung scored three runs off NC closer Lee Yong-chan, including a two-run double by Koo Ja-rook and an RBI single by Kim Young-woong, to win the game with plenty of time to spare.

The seventh-place Lotte Giants swept the Kiwoom Heroes 4-0 at Sajik Stadium in Busan to close the gap on sixth-place KT to 1.5 games.

Lotte starter Charlie Barnes pitched six shutout innings, striking out six and walking none.

Lotte scored two runs in the first inning on a two-run double by Son Ho-young and two more in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Son and an RBI single by Hwang Sung-bin with runners on first and third.

Kiwoom matched Lotte’s eight hits but was unable to capitalize.

Hanwha rode a strikeout show from foreign right-hander Ryan Weiss to a 2-1 victory over SSG Landers to extend its winning streak to six games in Incheon.

Weiss struck out 12 batters over 6⅔ innings, allowing just two hits and one run to earn his second win of the season (3-2). The 12 strikeouts are the second-most in a single game this season.

Five SSG batters – Choi Jeong-jeong, Han Yoo-seom, Park Sung-sung, Kim Min-sik and Oh Tae-gon – each reached base twice against Weiss.

Choi’s solo home run in the fourth inning was Weiss’ only blemish.

Hanwha scored two runs in the top of the fourth inning on a hit and two walks, Kim In-hwan’s RBI single to right and Choi Jae-hoon’s sacrifice fly.

Weiss was followed by Han Seung-hyuk (7th) and Joo Hyun-sang (9th) to keep SSG off the board.

Choi hit his 30th home run of the season, his first in three years, but was unable to smile in defeat. Choi increased his career home run total to 488 and became the sixth player in history to hit 30 or more home runs in a season. 사설 토토사이트
