Lucas scores debut goal…Seoul beats Jeju for fourth straight K League 1 win in five years

Professional soccer’s K League 1 FC Seoul celebrated its fourth consecutive league win in five years.

Seoul defeated Jeju United 1-0 in the 27th round of the Hana Bank K League 1 2024 at Seoul World Cup Stadium on Saturday, thanks to Lucas’ first goal in the 22nd minute of the first half.

The win was Seoul’s fourth consecutive league victory over Jeju, following recent wins over Gimcheon Sangmu, Incheon United, and Pohang Steelers, and their first since May-June 2019.

With 42 points, Seoul moved up one spot to fifth place, raising hopes of a top-tier finish.

Jeju, on the other hand, suffered its second straight league loss and remained in eighth place (32 points).

For Seoul, attacking centerpiece Lingard, who had been out of action for a month after being substituted midway through the 23rd round against Ulsan HD on March 13 with a hamstring injury, returned to the field and started in front of his daughter Hope, who was visiting South Korea.

Brazilian forward Lucas, who joined Seoul in the summer transfer window, made his first start for the club.

Seoul broke the deadlock early on as Lingard and Jeju’s Hayes exchanged sharp shots.

In the 22nd minute, after receiving a ball from Kang Sang-woo on the left flank, Lucas dragged the ball into the left side of the penalty arc and unleashed a fierce right-footed shot to explode for his K League debut.

With Lingard and Lucas, who is not yet fully fit, only playing through the first half, Seoul went in search of more goals with Ilyuchenko, who is tied for the league lead with 12 goals this season, coming on for Willian.

Jeju tried to make up for it with substitutions, bringing on Yuri Jonatan and Nam Tae-hee for Hayes and Park Joo-young.

Jeju knocked on the door with two shots on target from Yuri and Nam Tae-hee, and one from substitute Kim Jung-min in the 22nd minute of the second half, but Seoul held on to the one-goal lead with a solid defense that included Jordanian international defender Yazan.

At the DGB Daegu Bank Park in Daegu, Daegu FC escaped an eight-match winless streak (four draws) with a 3-0 victory over Gimcheon.

With 27 points, Daegu moved into 10th place, ahead of Daejeon Hana Citizens (24 points), who have yet to play 27 rounds.

Daegu’s “living legend” Sejingya scored multi-goal efforts in the 12th and 39th minutes of the second half, while Politician added a goal in the 15th minute.

Gimcheon, who suffered their second straight defeat without stopping them, remained in second place with 46 points. 파워볼게임
