Pennsylvania Game Control Board Considering Philadelphia Casino

The Pennsylvania Game Control Board announced today that it will hold a special meeting at the Pennsylvania Convention Center on Tuesday, November 18, 2014, to consider awarding a Category 2 (standalone casino) license in Philadelphia.

The category 2 license, the final license allowed under the Pennsylvania Horse Racing Development and Gaming Act, is being reviewed by four applicants. The category 2 independent license allows casino operators to use up to 5,000 slot machines and 250 table games.

Applicants include:

Tower Entertainment, LLC (The Provence), 400 North Broad Street
Market East Associates, LP (Market 8 Casino) 8th Street and Market Street
PHL Local Gaming, LLC (Casino Revolution), 333 South Front Street
Stadium Casino, LLC (Live! Hotel and Casino), 900 Packer Ave

The Pennsylvania Gaming Commission was established in 2004 with the passage of Act 71, also known as the Horse Racing Development and Gaming Act. For the first time in nearly three decades, the Gaming Commission, a new state agency in Pennsylvania, is tasked with overseeing all aspects of the Pennsylvania casino industry.
