It’s okay if you don’t play in the UCL! Der Licht informs Man Utd

Matthias De Ligt (24, Bayern Munich) has been linked with a move to Manchester United.

“Manchester United are trying to sign a center back,” Fabrizio Romano, a journalist familiar with the European soccer transfer market, said on his personal social media account on Tuesday.

United have two center backs in mind, one of which is Everton center back Jared Branswaite.

Manchester United broke all sorts of ignominious records in 2023-2024. With their 14th loss of the season, United twice broke the record for the most losses in a season in the history of the Premier League.

It was a season in which their offensive and defensive balance was completely out of whack. In 38 league games, United scored 57 goals and conceded 58, finishing the season with a goal difference of -1.

Injuries to the defense were plentiful. Lisandro Martinez was out of the squad early on with an injury, and Raphael Varane was also struggling with injuries. The same goes for Victor Lindelof. Add to that the parting of the ways with Baran at the end of the 2023-2024 season, and reinforcing the defense is not an option, but a necessity.

In this situation, United first looked for a player from the same Premier League, and Branswaite caught their eye. Branswaite is an English defender who plays for Everton and was born in 2002. He’s a 6-foot-2 defender who’s good with both feet and has great delivery. His feet are not slow for his size. He has a good eye for reading the game and his positioning is not bad.

Earlier, on the 14th, the British ‘The Times’ reported that “United have agreed personal terms with Branswaite’s agent. The signing has now gained momentum. However, there are still differences with Everton over the transfer fee. Everton want £70 million ($123 million).”

In the end, it seems that the differences over the transfer fee have not been resolved. “United are still trying to sign Branswaite, but the two clubs’ valuations of the player are still very different. United are not willing to pay the transfer fee that Everton want.”

United then turned their attention abroad, and found Matthijs de Ligt.

The Dutch center back was born in 1999 and began his career at AFC Ajax in 2016, where he showed his talents in the UEFA Champions League in the 2018-2019 season, but he left the Netherlands for Italy in the 2019-2020 season after Juventus persisted in their pursuit.

He then left Juventus for Bayern Munich in the 2022-2023 season for a new challenge. In the 2023-2024 season, he was paired with new center back Kim Min-Jae. In the second half of the season, he partnered with Eric Dier in goal.

Bayern Munich ended the 2023-2024 season with a disappointing record of relegation. The club parted ways with head coach Thomas Tuchel before the end of the season and handed the reins over to new coach Vincent Kompany. Shortly after Kompany’s arrival, the Bavarians overhauled their defense, signing Japanese defender Hiroki Ito from VfB Stuttgart and extending the contract of outgoing loanee Josip Stanisic.

Der Licht, in turn, are keeping a close eye on United’s interest. “United have been in contact with Der Licht over the last few hours,” Romano said. There is no official 먹튀검증업체 순위 bid at this point. There have been no direct negotiations between Bayern Munich and United. Something concrete will probably happen after Euro 2024 is over.”

Earlier, The Athletic reported that “current United boss Erik ten Haag coached Der Licht himself at Ajax. United’s interest in De Ligt is in line with Ten Haag’s thinking and he would welcome a reunion with De Ligt,” the publication reported.

“Der Licht is tied to Munich until 2027, but a potential transfer fee would be quite realistic,” the outlet added.

Romano also had some good news for United. “United have been informed by Der Licht that even if they don’t qualify for the Champions League, he can still move to United. A move to United is still possible,” he added.
