Nevada Gaming Commission to Strengthen Regulation and Tax Collection
The Nevada Gaming Control Board is actively pursuing a series of regulatory improvements and technological advances to strengthen the gaming industry and increase its contribution to the state’s general fund. The initiative was detailed during a presentation by the Joint Interim Standing Committee of the Judiciary, led by Senior Policy Advisor Sebastian Ross, with President Kirk Hendrick. This 10-minute overview marked the first discussion of gaming regulation priorities ahead of the 2025 legislative session that begins this February.
Innovative legislative developments are on the horizon:
The control committee will submit two legislation in the future aimed at improving and updating the regulatory framework, although details of the bills were not disclosed during the presentation. The session, which did not take questions from members, outlined the committee’s regulatory adjustments and technological advances following previous legislative sessions.
Significant regulatory and technological advances have been made by the Control Board and the Nevada Gaming Commission. The latest effort has led to 13 deregulations, eight being amended, three monitoring standards being updated, and six regulations receiving final approval at the committee’s last monthly meeting. Major technological changes are also underway, with the project to overhaul the committee’s operating system with funding expected to take several more months to complete, according to Ross’ report.
Among the disclosed regulatory improvements, the Board simplified the tax collection process for licensees to align with Nevada’s taxation department. It also improved the process of placing individuals on the exclusion list by removing outdated out-of-state sources. New guidelines for expedited approval of gaming technologies have also been introduced to increase the efficiency of the assessment process.
Rapid assessment and field testing innovation:
The committee has launched the “Nevada One Day Evaluation” (NODE), which mandates the technical department to complete the evaluation of slot machine modifications within a single day of receiving the application. Another notable initiative, the “Ante Up Initiative,” allows control committee personnel to perform much of the on-site testing procedures that are typically handled by licensees.
According to a report in the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Ross emphasized that this tightening of restrictions is critical to keeping Nevada’s gaming sector energized. Recently, Nevada celebrated its most successful May in terms of gaming victories, which amounted to $1.32 billion, up 2.5% year-over-year. As of June, Nevada collected $1.17 billion in gaming taxes, up 4.5% from its previous fiscal year. These numbers not only beat pre-pandemic levels, but also beat those predicted by the state’s economic forum. 슬롯사이트 순위
With 363 equal full-time employees across six departments, the control board is preparing to report this June’s gaming sector win figures and fiscal year totals next week, providing further insight into financial performance under the newly implemented regulatory framework.
