‘Belangel scores 24 points’ Gasworks defeats Samsung 81:75 despite Nicholson’s absence

Daegu KOGAS avoided back-to-back losses by beating last-place Seoul Samsung despite the absence of Andrew Nicholson.

GAS defeated Samsung 81-75 on Thursday at Jamsil Indoor Gymnasium in Seoul, South Korea, in an away game of the 2023-2024 Korean Basketball Association regular season.

GAS, which had its three-game winning streak snapped after losing to Wonju DB by one point on Feb. 2, rebounded to improve to 19 wins and 27 losses on the season and remain in seventh place. They are 5.5 games behind sixth-place Ulsan Hyundai Mobis 온라인카지노 (24 wins and 21 losses), which is the final playoff spot.

No. 10 Samsung, which lost its fourth straight game against GAS, dropped to 10-35.

Without Nicholson, who has a bad ankle, GAS took a 26-17 lead in the first quarter behind nine points from Samjosef Belangel.

In the second quarter, Samsung racked up points behind Lee Jung-hyun’s skillful ball distribution to tie the game at 29-29 with 5:15 left, but Park Bong-jin scored five straight points from inside and outside to give GAS a 34-29 lead. The score was 40-32 at halftime.

GAS extended its lead to 53-37 with 5:24 left in the third quarter after Park Bong-jin, Belangel, and Kim Nak-hyun hit three-pointers in quick succession, but Samsung cut the deficit to 50-58 late in the third quarter after Lee Jung-hyun and Ishmael Lane split time.

At the start of the fourth quarter, Lee Jung-hyun had a big game with two three-pointers and a three-point play to bring Samsung to within 68-70 with 4:38 left.

However, GAS turned up the defensive intensity and made it 75-68 on a three-point play by Maxwell and two free throws by Kim Nak-hyun, and never relinquished the lead.

Belangel finished with 24 points, six assists and five rebounds, Kim added 18 points including four 3-pointers, and Maxwell had 17 points and 13 rebounds for GAS.

Samsung had three players in double figures with Lee Jung-hyun with 20 points and 10 assists, Lee Won-seok with 14 points and 11 rebounds, and Kofi Coburn with 14 points and 15 rebounds, but couldn’t smile.
