Desert Diamond West Valley Casino Starts Construction

Today, more than eight years after the project was first announced, Tohono Odam Gaming Enterprise (TOGE) broke ground on a permanent and all-out house in the Desert Diamond West Valley Casino. The new facility will house five restaurants on the 75,000-square-foot casino floor, along with a Class III slot machine, poker and blackjack tables, and live bingo. Construction of the $400 million project is expected to last about 24 months.

The construction of the project is led by Hunt/Penta Joint Venture as an executive contractor and will create more than 1,500 construction jobs. When the full-scale casino is completed, it will employ approximately 1,600 employees. The facility is located on a 54-acre reserve near the cities of Glendale and Peoria, Arizona. The full-scale casino will complement the area’s vibrant sports and entertainment attractions, including the Westgate Entertainment District in Glendale and the P83 Entertainment District in Peoria.

The Tohono O’odham Nation first announced a major casino project on Jan. 29, 2009. The casino project has faced significant challenges due to the court’s special stakeholders and multiple attempts to move federal law to shut down the project. All of these challenges failed, and a temporary casino opened to a huge crowd on Dec. 20, 2015. It currently employs nearly 600 people. The temporary casino will continue to operate during construction, after which it will be used as a warehouse after the casino opens in earnest.

Edward Manuel, president of the Tohono Odam Nation, said, “The facility will provide jobs and economic opportunities for members of the Tohono Odam Nation, the West Valley, and Arizona. The Nation is proud of the partnership we have made in the region, which will only strengthen and grow as we move forward.”

Andy Asselin, CEO of Tohono O’odham Gaming Enterprise, said, “Today is a long-awaited day for our guests and staff. We have a wonderful construction team to develop unique attractions throughout the West Valley. We are eager to get started.”

TOGE also plans future construction phases, including hotels, spas, and other resort facilities, once the permanent casino is completed. Once fully completed, the resorts and casinos will occupy more than 1 million square feet and create more than 3,000 jobs. 파워볼실시간
