Sandy’s Racing & Gaming Opens Kentucky-Exclusive Amenities

Sandy’s Racing & Gaming, a $75 million entertainment facility in eastern Kentucky, celebrated its grand opening on Oct. 26, 2023. The event, attended by Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, represents the result of his support and the launch of the joint development of the Eastern Cherokee Indian Band and Revolution Racing Kentucky, which reportedly secured nearly 250 new jobs and millions of dollars in new tax revenue.

As PRNewswire reported, the property spans 75,000 square feet in Ashland, Eastern Kentucky. It also features nearly 700 historic horse racing games and BetMGM racing & sportsbook features, as well as two performance stages that boast unique offerings from the region. Larry Lucas, chairman of Revolution Racing Kentucky, reportedly said, “Last year we committed to bringing first-class facilities to Boyd County. Today we can make promises and say we kept them.”

The unique racing and gaming facility is expected to include a quarter racetrack and an equestrian center that will occupy 182 acres of land nearby. The project was officially launched during the grand opening event, with the first ground leveling work symbolically done to announce the construction of the track due to begin in early 2024. According to PRNewswire, the first race can already be expected in 2025 to celebrate the state’s unique horse racing development.

Developing Social Responsibility:

Partners in the deal began construction in April 2023 after Revolution Racing Kentucky was reported to have received its ninth and final horse racing license from the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission. Construction work was led by Lexington’s D.W. Wilburn construction and tri-state building trade to hire more than 300 local union employees throughout the project. According to reports, 90% of all materials and supplies were made in the United States to testify about investors’ perceptions of domestic profits.
