Cuevas, Benjamin, and Young-pyo for the three-game series against No. 2 KT and No. 1 LG

The second-place KT Wiz of the Korean Baseball Organization (KBO) will deploy a one-two-three punch in a three-game home series against the first-place LG Twins from September 5-7.

William Cuevas, who went 5-0 with a 0.50 ERA in the month of August, will start the first game on September 5, followed by Wes Benjamin, who is 13-5 with a 4.04 ERA this season.

On the 7th, LG Electronics will send out homegrown ace Ko Young-pyo, who has a 1.00 ERA since July.

“The starting rotation came about unintentionally,” KT manager Lee Kang-cheol said before the team’s home game against the Samsung Lions of the 2023 KBO at Katie Wise Park in Suwon on Aug. 31, adding that the decision was made after much deliberation.

Initially, KT had planned to use Ko Young-pyo against Samsung on the 30th.

If the rotation continued, Kim, Ko, and Benjamin would have started the three-game series against LG.

However, the game was canceled due to rain, prompting a change in the rotation.

“We thought about putting Go Young-pyo in today’s game, but if we did that, we would have to start Kim Min, the substitute (for injured Uhm Sang-baek), after four days of rest,” said Lee Kang-chul.

“So we decided to reorganize the rotation with Benjamin in today’s game and Ko in tomorrow’s game,” Lee explained.

Lee’s decision allowed KT to field a formidable lineup for the three-game series against LG.

“We didn’t make the decision with LG in mind,” Lee said, adding, “It’s a rotation based on the team’s situation.”

The change in KT’s starting rotation has put LG under a lot of pressure.

The team has lost three straight games to fall 4.5 games behind second-place KT.

The team has been hit especially hard by the recent loss of foreign ace Adam Plutko to injury.

They will have to face KT, which has three ace-level pitchers. 먹튀검증
