KIM HITS 2 HRS AGAINST BALTIMORE FOR 6TH MULTI-HIT GAME IN AUGUST

San Diego Padres outfielder Ha Sung Kim recorded his sixth multi-hit game (two or more hits in a game) this month, leading his team to a big win. Starting at first base and batting second in the lineup, Kim went 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored in the Padres’ 2023 Major League Baseball (MLB) home opener against the Baltimore Orioles at Petco Park in San Diego, California, on Saturday .His season batting average increased slightly from .283 to .285 (111-for-390).After going hitless the day before against the Arizona Diamondbacks, Kim’s bat was on fire from his first at-bat in the first inning. As if he was expecting it, Kim pulled a knuckle curveball down in the strike zone from Baltimore starter Jack Flaherty for a two-run double to deep left field. It was his 18th double of the season .Baltimore third baseman Ramon Urias leapt at Kim’s bullet of a hit, but the ball had already passed him. After giving up the double to Kim, Baltimore starter Flaherty gave up walks to Manny Machado and Xander Bogaerts to load the bases. Jake Cronen wirth picked off Flaherty with a wild pitch, allowing Kim to score the go-ahead run and his 66th run of the season. Two batters later, Gary Sanchez drove an outside pitch over the right field wall to make it 5-0.Kim, who hit a big ball just off the left field fence in his second at-bat of the inning, added an RBI single in his third at-bat of the inning to complete the multi-hit game. Working to a two-strike count against reliever Nick Vespi, Kim barely touched a low curveball on three pitches. The pitch deflected off Vespi’s glove and rolled in front of the Baltimore second baseman, allowing Kim to reach first base .It was Kim’s sixth multi-hit game in August, nearly half of his 13 games .He advanced to second on a single by Fernando Tatis Jr. in the next at-bat, but was stranded at second when Juan Soto grounded into a double play. Kim’s two at-bats in the fifth and eighth innings ended in infield grounders.
